Female Condom Demonstration by WASN

September 3, 2024

The Women and AIDS Support Network (WASN) recently conducted an informative and practical demonstration on the use of female condoms, as part of their ongoing efforts to empower women and promote sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR).

Understanding the Female Condom

The female condom is a powerful tool that allows women to take control of their sexual health. It is a barrier method that offers dual protection against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unintended pregnancies. During the demonstration, participants were shown how to correctly use the female condom, from checking the expiration date to the proper insertion technique.

Why the Female Condom?

WASN emphasized the importance of the female condom as a vital option in the prevention of HIV and other STIs. Unlike male condoms, female condoms can be inserted up to eight hours before sexual activity, providing women with more flexibility and control. This aspect was highlighted as a key advantage during the demonstration.

Hands-On Learning

The demonstration was highly interactive, with participants given the opportunity to practice using the female condom in a safe and supportive environment. This hands-on approach ensured that everyone left the session feeling confident and informed about using this important tool.

Promoting Awareness and Confidence

By conducting these demonstrations, WASN continues to promote awareness about sexual health and empowers women to make informed decisions. The organization’s commitment to improving access to SRHR services is evident in their proactive approach to education and advocacy.

Looking Forward

As WASN continues to advocate for women’s health and rights, demonstrations like these are crucial in equipping communities with the knowledge and resources they need. The female condom is just one of many tools that women can use to protect their health, and WASN remains dedicated to ensuring that these options are accessible and understood by all.
